Albany
is a town in south-central Kentucky that serves as the county seat of Clinton County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,033. It's located just six miles from the Tennessee border. In the early 1800s, settler Benjamin Dowell established a tavern in the area and the town virtually grew up around it. The town was incorporated in 1838 and named for the city of Albany, New York. Much of the town was burned to the ground in the Civil War, but by the 1870s, Albany had recovered and had a new courthouse, several dry goods stores, grocery stores, drug stores and a confectionery. Albany is near Lake Cumberland, a popular vacation/recreational lake that is the second largest lake in the Cumberland River system. Cumberland Lake covers over 63,000 acres with more than 1,200 miles of shoreline. It draws thousands of visitors per year, and is a fisherman's dream with an abundance of crappie, walleye, trout, catfish and five species of bass. In addition to fishing, other things to do at Cumberland Lake include camping, hiking, biking, boating and taking scenic drives. It's beautiful in every season, but especially autumn. The Albany/Lake Cumberland area also offers lots restaurant choices, hotels, lakeside cabins and cottages.

Albany Weather & Climate
The Appalachian Mountains provide a scenic backdrop and have a significant impact on the weather of Tennessee. The climate is best described as mild with four seasons. Summers are generally warm and humid and winters are cold, but mild. Rain is common throughout the year, with thunderstorms in the spring and summer months. The humidity in summer often makes it seem warmer than it actually is in the region. Fall is crisp and cool and a good time to visit to view the brilliant foliage. Snow for the entire state is an average of 12 inches. Temperatures year round can be 10-20 degrees cooler on the mountaintops. Severe weather in Tennessee is rare since the state is east of the center of tornado activity, south of most winter blizzard conditions and too far inland for hurricanes.
