Lexington
is Kentucky's second largest city, located in the north-central portion of the state at the intersection of Interstates 64 and 75. The city is located in the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass Country and is known as the "Horse Capital of the World," and "Thoroughbred City." It's home to the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland Race Course and The Red Mile Race Course. The latter is the oldest horse racing track in the city and the second-oldest in the nation. Lexington is also an educational center, home to Transylvania University, the University of Kentucky and Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Driving into Lexington, one is treated to the sight of miles of rolling green hills and horse farms, surrounded by white fences, small creeks and lush woodlands. Lexington is home many historical structures, including the Henry Clay Estate, and the Lexington Public Library, which houses the world's largest ceiling clock, as well as an art gallery and the 138-seat Farish Theater. Other places of interest include the Pope Villa, Lexington History Center, the old Fayette County Courthouse, First African Baptist Church, the Mary Todd Lincoln House, Aviation Museum of Kentucky and Martin Castle. You can visit a restored Shaker Village, the largest in the world, or take a tour of one of five historic Kentucky bourbon distilleries. Lexington also has world-class dining and shopping and nightlife. For outdoor recreation, Lexington is home to over 100 parks, six public golf courses and four dog parks. The city is also host to several special events, including the Festival of the Bluegrass, held the first full weekend in June.

North-central Kentucky has a humid subtropical climate that borders on a humid continental climate. Summers tend to be hot and humid and winters are cold, but with mild periods.
