Mill-Springs is a location in south-central Kentucky that was the site of the Battle of Mill Springs in the American Civil War in January, 1862. It was declared a United States National Historic Landmark in 1993. The battle was fought in Wayne and Pulaski counties. While the Battle of Mill Springs was considered a small battle in comparison to many that followed in the Civil War, it was nonetheless the second largest in the state of Kentucky - only the Battle at Perryville had higher casualties. It was also the first significant Union victory of the war. According to Wikipedia: the initial designated area at the Battle of Mill Springs for the National Register of Historic Places included three separate areas: the battlefield, and two separate areas with Confederate fortifications on each side of Lake Cumberland (one near Mill Springs, and the other by Beech Grove). There is also a Visitor Center and Museum in the nearby town of Nancy. It's adjacent to the Mill Springs National Cemetery. The museum consists of a community room, library, legacy room, exhibition hall, and a gift shop.
