Campbellsville is a city located in central Kentucky, home to Campbellsville University. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,108 residents. Campbellsville is surrounded by Bluegrass country and Green River Lake State Park. As such, it's an outdoor lover's dream. Green River Lake State Park offers over 8,000 acres of scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. The lake is one-mile wide at its' widest point and has an average depth of 50 feet. Activities include fishing, boating, water-skiing, and hiking on over 40 miles of twisting, scenic trails. Horseback riding and mountain biking are other options. There are eight campgrounds near Campbellsville - two of them are lakeside. The lake is also home to custom-made floating cabins. Campbellsville is also home to several important Civil War historic sites. The Battle at Tebbs Bend has been called "one of the most outstanding small victories in the Civil War." Visitors can step back in time on a 3-mile driving tour of this battle. Visitors taking the tour may request a key to visit the 1840 Atkinson-Griffin Log House, which served as a Confederate hospital after the battle and now houses memorabilia and artifacts for visitors to enjoy. Downtown Campbellsville also has many noted historic buildings. The 100 and 200 block of Main Street are lined with century old brick, stone, and iron buildings with Italianate architecture facades. Main Street is filled with restaurants and shops. Campbellsville is one of Kentucky's only "moist" towns, where restaurants serve liquor. Campbellsville is also known for its fun-filled Fourth of July Celebration.

Campbellsville Weather & Climate

Central Kentucky has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Summers tend to be humid with frequent thunderstorms. Winters are generally cold, but with a few mild periods throughout the season. Spring begins in mid-March and is often wet, windy and unpredictable. Autumn is mild, sunny and very pleasant. Extreme weather is a possibility in Central Kentucky in the form of floods, ice storms and blizzards, but these types of storms are not common. The region is considered part of the Mississippi Plateau and the weather is influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. There are four distinct seasons, although winters are not as frigid as other parts of the country. This region gets an average of 43 inches of rain per year. Snowfall is typically five inches per year.
