Glasgow
is a city in Barren County, south-central Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,028 residents. In 2007 Barren County was named the Best Place to Live in Rural America by Progressive Farmer Magazine. Glasgow is the county seat. The town is most well-known for its annual Scottish Highland Games, which has been named as a "Top Ten" summer festival event by the Kentucky Tourism Council. Usually held in late May-early June, this four-day event includes music and gaming competitions, Celtic arts, crafts and food, Scottish dancing and more fun for the whole family. Other attractions in the city of Glasgow include Fort Williams, built in 1863 and the Veterans Wall of Honor, located on the South Public Square. The Glasgow Garden Club and the Glasgow Recreation Departments Native Plant Habitat site is located along the Weldon Park Walking Trail. It has native trees, grasses and flowers in bloom from April through November, and is a lovely place to walk and observe the plants, flowers, butterflies and birds. Downtown Glasgow is also home to the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center. This center is dedicated to the people, places and events that make up the geographic area known as the Barrens," which includes Glasgow and Barren County, as well as Metcalfe, Allen, Hart and Monroe Counties.
